Psychotherapy
For high-functioning adults carrying more than they show
Is psychotherapy right for you?
Life can feel overwhelming when you're weighed down by constant worry, struggling to manage panic attacks, or trying to make sense of painful experiences from your past. You might be facing a major life transition, feeling disconnected from your faith, or experiencing tension in your relationships that you can't seem to resolve. Perhaps you've noticed changes in your memory or concentration and aren't sure what's behind them, or you're simply ready to understand yourself more deeply.
Dr. Steele works with adults who are ready to make meaningful changes. Her approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in evidence-based practices, helping you navigate anxiety, trauma, stress, and life's transitions in a way that honors what matters most to you.
What we treat
Whether you're dealing with ongoing anxiety, recovering from trauma, or navigating a difficult transition, Dr. Steele provides specialized support for a range of concerns. Her evidence-based approach is tailored to the unique challenges you're facing.
Anxiety & panic disorders
Constant worry, racing thoughts, or panic attacks can interfere with daily life. Therapy can help you understand anxiety patterns and develop practical tools for managing it.
Post-traumatic stress disorder
Difficult experiences from your past don't have to define your future. Therapy provides a safe space to work through what happened at a pace that feels manageable.
Life transitions & stress
Career changes, relocation, relationship difficulties, or major adjustments. Therapy helps you navigate uncertainty, manage stress, and find clarity during change.
Spiritual & faith concerns
Questions about faith, meaning, or spiritual identity that create distress. Dr. Steele provides a compassionate space for Christians and Jewish individuals experiencing crises of faith.
Additional concerns: relationship difficulties, stress management, and memory or other cognitive concerns.

How we work together
Therapy isn't one-size-fits-all. Evidence-based approaches mean that extensive research has been conducted across various situations and populations to identify which types of treatment are most effective. But research is just the starting point. Dr. Steele tailors her approach to you as an individual, adapting treatment to fit your cultural background, personal values, and specific needs. Together, you'll decide what works best for you.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most researched and effective approaches for anxiety, depression, insomnia, and many other challenges. The foundation of CBT is understanding that your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected, and when you change one, the others shift too.
How CBT works:
- Identifies thought patterns that keep you stuck
- Examines how those thoughts affect your feelings and behaviors
- Works on changing unhelpful thoughts and behaviors
- Creates natural shifts in how you feel
If you're constantly thinking "I'm not good enough," you'll likely feel discouraged and pull back from opportunities. If you're worried about getting into a car accident every time you drive, anxiety builds and avoidance follows. CBT helps you recognize these patterns and develop practical tools to interrupt them.
DBT-Informed Skills
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) focuses on balancing acceptance and change. Dr. Steele draws on DBT skills in individual sessions, especially when emotions feel intense, relationships feel strained, or stress leaves you feeling overwhelmed and reactive.
DBT teaches practical skills across four areas:
- Mindfulness — staying present and aware in the moment
- Emotion regulation — understanding and managing intense feelings
- Distress tolerance — getting through crisis moments without making things worse
- Interpersonal effectiveness — communicating your needs while maintaining healthy relationships
Dr. Steele is trained in the full DBT model.
These are practical tools you can use in daily life to handle difficult emotions and navigate conflict with more steadiness.
Problem-Solving Therapy (PST)
Problem-Solving Therapy (PST) is another type of CBT that's ideal when life feels overwhelming, when you're facing stressor after stressor and aren't sure where to start. PST provides a collaborative space where you and Dr. Steele model how to solve problems together until you begin to understand and adapt these problem-solving skills.
The Problem-Solving Therapy process:
- Identify and define the real issue clearly
- Brainstorm potential solutions
- Evaluate your options and their likely outcomes
- Create an action plan and put it into practice
- Assess what's working and adjust as needed
Under prolonged stress, attention tends to narrow toward problems and away from options. Problem-Solving Therapy offers a structured way to step back, define what's actually in front of you, and work toward practical next steps.

Getting started with Restored Living
Once you're ready to begin—or if we determine together that we're a good fit—we'll schedule your intake session. This is required for all new clients or those returning after 6 or more months away from therapy. During intake, Dr. Steele will gather a detailed history of what's bringing you in, lifestyle factors that may be contributing to current challenges, and how these issues are affecting your daily life.
Together, you'll identify initial treatment goals and create a flexible roadmap for your work together. This plan can shift and evolve as needed. Therapy is a collaborative process, and Dr. Steele will adjust the approach as you go, ensuring it continues to meet your needs.
